The Rise in Golf

Author: Jakob Culver

In 1744 the first rules of golf were submitted in writing for the first time. This is when the laws of golf were made for an annual competition. In the 1800s is when golf became really popular. Because the equipment was hand crafted causing it to be quite expensive it was a sport enjoyed mostly by the wealthy. In the 1850s the first private clubs were created and they hired green keepers to maintain the lawns. When the metal club heads and shafts started being produced, the game lost its prestige in the U.S. because then the average person could afford to golf.

Over time many changes have been made to the game of golf. In the 1930s the wooden golf tee was introduced improving the game immensely.

Thanks to the technology of the game today, many new tools are used to better the game for the player. Using graphite shafts instead of steel makes the ball go further with not as much effort.

This is a game that can be self taught, but if you are serious about it, consider golf lessons. Learning techniques from an instructor can really help your game. You can also look into training aids that can be found online or at your local sports store.

There is also golf range equipment, putting a lot of caddies out of work, but its fun for you. Who doesnt like driving a golf cart?
